The Community We Service

Forster Local Aboriginal Land Council covers a geographical area fromthe Pacific Ocean in the East to the Central Highlands beyond Gloucesterin the West, from Seal Rocks in the South to Hallidays Point in the North.Approximately 500 Indigenous people live within these boundaries with themajority of the population residing in the Forster/Tuncurry area (422 people- ABS 1996 Census).

Management

An independent review of FLALC by Walter & Turnbull in February1998 found the following conclusion:

"There are a number of areas where the organisation should be complimentedfor their achievements:

Pro-active approach to the establishment of sound management structuresand operational policies and procedures;
Development and implementation of sound planning processes at the communitydevelopment and operational levels;
Pro-active approach to addressing the organisation's weaknesses in financialprocedures internal controls, demonstrating a practical approach to selfmanagement
Implementation of sound budgeting and reporting practices; and
Achievement of commendable service provision performance

Overall the organisation is managing the CDEP effectively and efficientlyand providing high quality service to its participants and the community.
